The 1000-Mile Doublehanded consists of three legs between Holland, Norway and the Shetland Islands – and finishes in Bergen. The two shorter legs are also part of the Shetland-Bergen Race, so prizes will be awarded in both Lerwick and Bergen. The winners of the 1000-Mile Doublehanded will be announced at the awards ceremony in Bergen.
Who can participate?
All experienced sailors seeking serious short-handed sailing competition. Your boat must be 27ft (LOA) or more and manned by two people. At least one crewmember must complete the entire race.
Skills and thrills – and fun
We’re not just in this to tackle the elements – we want to enjoy the company of our fellow sailors. So we designed the 1000-Mile Doublehanded with fleet restarts at the beginning of each leg, so all competitors, be they fast or not-so-fast, stay together and enjoy the fun at every stopover.
The 1000-Mile Doublehanded will be sailed under the auspices of SHORTHANDED.NL, together with the Committee Shetland-Bergen Races and is an initative by Dick Koopmans and Huib Swets.
